Luxe Bride Kallie + Stephen

Luxe Bride Kallie + Stephen

Luxe bride Kallie and her now-husband Stephen made the most of their wedding day with a gorgeous ceremony in a vineyard overlooking the valley. From a long distance relationship to a dreamy proposal in Disney World, Kallie and Stephen’s love story is one you won’t want to miss!

Tell us about the proposal!

At the time, we were in a long distance relationship while I was finishing school on the West Coast and he was in Minnesota. We were Facetiming and he couldn’t stop smiling, the kind of smiling someone does when they have a secret and want to share, but shouldn’t. I kept asking him why he was smiling so much and he finally caved and said he bought a ring. This conversation was in December and my family was planning a Disney vacation in May. Since my family and I love Disney, I immediately knew he would likely propose in Disney World and it would be kind of weird to not propose in front of the castle. I knew the exact day since we were heading to Magic Kingdom first. We passed by Cinderella’s castle in the morning, and he did not propose which really threw me off. We continued enjoying Magic Kingdom. With Florida being Florida, of course it rained after we rode Splash Mountain, my hair, shirt, and shorts were drenched. We were heading back to the hotel to dry off and my mom said she wanted a picture in front of the castle. We were posing in front of the castle, with my hand on his chest, and I felt his heart beating SO fast. Sure enough, in the next picture, he dropped down on one knee. He planned well and even had custom Disney buttons saying “Celebrating because we just got engaged.” Sure, I wish my hair was not so frizzy, or that my fingers were not so swollen in the Florida humidity, but those factors fulfilled the cheesy analogy that not everything in life is perfect, but maybe it's the imperfections that make it real.

Describe your bridal style. How did you want to look on your wedding day? Tell us about your dress shopping experience.

Dress shopping at Luxe was a dream. It was my first bridal shopping experience and it happened that my birthday lined up well with my timeline. I think it is an understatement that I had no idea what I wanted for my dress. I had Mahle as my bridal stylist and she made the process so fun and enjoyable. She began by asking what I was looking for in a dress. To which I answered most questions as “I could like that.” I made her job a bit more difficult, that’s for sure. Even my mom was not sure I’d find something based on my lack of direction. Then the fun part, I started trying on dresses. I tried on seven to eight dresses throughout my appointment, some were obvious contenders, some very much not my style. The last dress I tried on, Mahle described as the “wild card.” I was not so sure as it was quite large and glittery, but thought I might as well try it on. The moment I looked in the mirror, I knew this wild card was the one by the way it made me feel and how excited I was to show my mom, future mother in law, and best friend. I walked out and their reactions were exactly what I was looking for, jaws dropped, big smiles, a bit teary eyed from my mom, at least that’s how I remember it. We got to celebrate with bubbly and treats, which really solidified the experience. It was such a relief to have such a great experience where I did not have to worry about how my body fit in the dresses or have a lesser selection just because my body doesn’t fit within the standard bridal size. It was such an amazing experience that I would absolutely love to go wedding dress shopping again, which is not my attitude toward shopping.

Tell us more about your wedding. What was your theme and color scheme? How did you make your wedding personal to your love story?

Our wedding was at a winery which had the perfect mix of old world charm and modern touches to make it beautiful and seamless. We didn’t really have a theme, but the characteristics we tried to stick by were simple, but elegant. We focused on how we wanted to feel during the day and what we wanted our friends and family to experience throughout the day. Our venue was stunning, the ceremony took place at the vineyard overlooking the Sogn Valley. Then the reception took place atop the winery, which used to be a dance hall. We chose emerald green and gold as our colors and then sunflowers and light pink roses. I kept the decor simple focusing on the beauty of the venue, the flowers, and our friends and family. We made our wedding personal by writing our own vows, choosing our favorite food and desserts, writing personalized notes for place cards for each family and friend, and tailoring our wedding playlist during the ceremony and reception.

What was the most special memory from the day?

How can I choose the best memory?! The whole day was great and was quite the blur. My most “cherished” memory is hearing my husband read his vows. He's not a guy who writes, much less shares his feelings in front of others, so his vows blew me away. I really loved being able to watch his reaction to my vows, especially since we had overlapping themes without trying. I also loved walking down the aisle since I had thought about how that moment would feel throughout the planning process. Lastly, dancing with all of my friends and family was way more fun than I thought it would be. I could not stay off the dance floor, and I am usually one who needs at least a few breaks in between songs. All in all, of course there are things that could have gone better or things I would have changed after the fact, but just goes back to finding the perfect in the imperfect.
